Wondering what to do with your wedding dress after the wedding?
At I Do Redo! Bridal, we specialize in repurposing wedding dresses into modern designs, keepsakes, and heirloom pieces. Whether you’re transforming your own gown or a family dress, our process is designed to be seamless—even for clients shipping gowns from across the country.
Here’s exactly how wedding dress repurposing works from start to finish.
Step 1: Ship Your Wedding Dress
After your initial inquiry and photo review, you’ll ship your wedding gown to our studio.
We provide guidance on packaging so your dress arrives safely and securely.
Step 2: Gown Intake & Design Consultation
Once your gown arrives, we begin with a full intake process:
Your gown is cataloged and documented
We inspect the fabric, structure, and condition
We evaluate the best design options
We then schedule a design consultation to discuss your vision and how to transform your wedding dress into something new.
Step 3: Deconstructing the Original Gown
For a full redesign, we carefully take the gown apart.
This may include:
Removing sleeves
Separating the bodice and skirt
Breaking the gown down into usable components
This allows us to fully repurpose the original materials while preserving meaningful details.
Step 4: Pattern Development & Fit Planning
Next, we develop a custom pattern for your new design.
Accuracy is key when working from an existing garment. We draft and refine the pattern to ensure structure, proportion, and fit.
For many designs, we incorporate a corset back, which allows flexibility and helps achieve a beautiful, adjustable fit—especially for out-of-state clients.
Step 5: Cutting & Rebuilding the Design
Once the pattern is finalized, we cut the new design directly from the original gown.
Depending on the transformation, we may also add:
New lining
Zippers or closures
Boning for structure
Interfacing for stability
This is where the wedding dress transformation begins to take shape.
Step 6: Sewing & Finishing
The garment moves into construction, where each piece is sewn and refined with couture-level attention to detail.
This stage includes shaping, pressing, and finishing to ensure the final piece is both beautiful and wearable.
Step 7: Final Photos & Approval
Once completed, we photograph the redesigned garment and send images to you for final approval.
This allows you to see your wedding dress transformation before it is shipped.
Step 8: Packaging & Return Shipping
After approval, your gown is carefully packaged and shipped back to you.
We take great care to ensure it arrives safely and ready to wear or preserve.
